Over the years I have been lucky enough to receive coaching and to also train as a coach. It has enriched my life and taught me a great deal about myself. As a result, I would like to share with you what I learned so far on my journey.
The Coaching Corner is a place whereby you can pick up tips and tools to use in your everyday life. A place to gain clarity.
A place of encouragement and nurturing
I will be with you all the way. providing you with a safe place to plant the seeds of your inner growth.
So let's get started.
In order to make changes in our lives it is important that we really want to and if so that we commit to the process. Most of us don't really trust ourselves to achieve our goals. This is often due to the fact that we are not taking care of our own needs and as a result have developed little self-trust.
So an important starting point when we want to make changes is, to begin with, a self-care inventory. Self-care is often seen as a dirty word. Some thing that only selfish, vain people would do. I am here to tell you that is simply not true, just what we have been taught as part of a belief system that is no longer viable.
When we can properly care for ourselves we are cultivating a strong inner foundation upon which we can build a future life of great joy, fulfillment and purpose.
I am inviting and encouraging you to take an honest self-care inventory. Do it gently and with compassion towards yourself. Blame, guilt and remorse have no place in this process, this is what stops us from moving forwards and creates "Overwhelm". By taking it step by step we bypass this and begin with what is possible and attainable. That way we set ourselves up for success.
Your self-care Inventory
How is your diet?
Do you exercise your body and take it out for walks?
What about your thoughts? Do they serve you or bring you down.?
What are your relationships like.? Who in your life is toxic and adds nothing to your well-being?
Ask yourself these questions and be honest. This is about you and you deserve your utmost attention. Jot down your answers and decide on what you would like to change.
Keep it to three simple steps:
1. Choose one thing to stop.
2. Choose one thing to start.
3. Choose one thing to modify.
For example, you may want to STOP using social media when you are with your loved ones. So you can give them your full attention.
You may want to START walking for twenty minutes, three times a week, in order to give something back to your body.
You may want to MODIFY your weekly alcohol intake. Instead of drinking, every night cut it down to three nights a week.
Once you have decided on what to START, what to STOP and what to MODIFY, commit to them for forty days. Be as specific as you can. This will give the mind time to embed new, healthy habits and you will be giving something back to yourself on a daily basis, building that foundation of self-trust that will carry you graciously through life and set you up for success.
Enjoy and embrace the changes that will happen when you give to yourself.
Let me know how you get on.
COACHING TIPS FOR THE MIND.
1. The brain is simply a very advanced computer. Program it correctly and it will serve you well.
2. Your mind is always loyal and does exactly what it thinks you want it to do.
3. The mind's only job is to protect you and keep you safe.
4. Emotion always wins over logic.
5. The Mind uses your body to express itself.
6. Your Mind is completely neutral and doesn't know if something is good or bad, right or wrong.
It simply listens to the words or thoughts you are feeding it and acts accordingly.
SO WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN FOR YOU
This is really great news for all of us as it enables us to see that the mind is really very obedient and will do exactly as we ask, so long as we are aware of how to ask.
This is achieved simply with the language and the words that we use on a daily basis. I know it sounds far too easy. I'm here to you assure you that it is easy but often for most of us it means beginning with an awareness of our thoughts and then adjusting them.
I discovered that every day my thought pattern was pretty much the same and went round and round in an ever-constant loop of negativity and worry. For example:
"I'm so stressed, I'm sure it will bring on a migraine." Guess what it did! And then I would be out of action for days.
Then there was the usual, "I'm not good enough, clever enough, don't have the right qualifications ", the list was endless.
Now I have to admit that when I first started to watch my thoughts I was horrified to learn just how negative they were. Outwardly you would think I am a very positive person. Inwardly however I realised that my thought process was not serving me. And in fact, was probably contributing to my constant feelings of exhaustion and misery. You see if you tell yourself "I'm rubbish", the Mind says, "Yes you are". Remember the Mind does not know right from wrong, or good from bad, it doesn't judge but agrees with whatever it is you say.
And so I began to keep careful watch over my thoughts and offered to feed my mind nourishing, resourceful, positive language instead. I started to make self-criticism a thing of the past.
My life changed from that point as I began to feel healthy on the inside and my mind had, at last, become my friend and greatest ally.
For the next few days, I invite you to also watch your words and your thoughts. How do you speak to yourself? Are you kind or are you self-critical?
Be a silent witness, stand to the side, don't judge simply observe the quality of the thoughts you are using on a daily basis. You will very quickly know if they are serving you or holding you back.
THOUGHTS TO REDUCE AND EVENTUALLY ELIMINATE
1. SELF CRITICISM
2. SELF JUDGEMENT
3. GOSSIPING
4. ANXIETY
5. FEAR
6. JUDGEMENT OF OTHERS
1. ABUNDANCE
2. PERSISTENCE
3. POSITIVITY
4. COURAGE
5 LOVING YOUR SELF
6. COMMITMENT
7. CREATIVITY
8. SELF BELIEF
Create your own affirmations or positive statements of intent. Here are some examples:
"EVERY DAY I SHOW UP FOR MYSELF WITH KINDNESS AND COMPASSION"
"I LOVE MY STRONG, VIBRANT, HEALTHY, ENERGETIC BODY."
Make praise a part of who you are. In the beginning, it can feel very odd as we are not used to praising ourselves. But keep going until it becomes familiar and watch your life change for the better.
Enjoy the process.
